Youth Action to End Commercial Sexual Exploitation via Technology

In the 21st century, technology plays an essential part in our lives. Now, a simple click of a mouse can lead to violations of women’s and girls’ human rights. Exploiters of children are capitalizing on the convenience and widespread use of technology to target victims for trafficking. Traffickers are aware that youth are active online and on mobile devices, and thus use social media and mobile apps to lure them in. In an effort to combat this tactic, ECPAT-USA teaches young people about the importance of having healthy virtual identities through our Youth Against Child Trafficking (Y-ACT) program.
This panel brings together girls who are Y-ACT leaders at New York City schools to share their understanding of child sex trafficking, the role of technology in perpetuating as well as ending it, and their involvement in the anti-trafficking movement.
