Former Walter Reed pediatrician, now 83, charged with child sex offenses. Edited

Police in Montgomery County, Md. arrested 83-year-old Leslie Boyd Altstatt, a resident of Silver Spring, Md., and charged him with sexually abusing three of his female relatives over the course of 32 years, starting when they were still young children. Altstatt was a former pediatrician employed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington.

CBS News in Washington reported on April 28 that Family Crimes detectives with the Montgomery County Police took Altstatt into custody on Friday. Reportedly, the victims told police back in February that the alleged sexual abuse happened “between 1964 and 1996.” One of the alleged victims, now grown, told police that she was abused by Altstatt when she was between the ages of six and 15, and that she had been abused “hundreds of times.”

Alstatt was employed at Walter Reed from the mid-1960s until the early 1980s. His medical license expired in 2010.

The retired pediatrician has been charged with 11 counts and numerous offenses including child abuse and perverted sex, according to USA Today. Alstatt will be in court for a preliminary hearing on May 23. Because of Altstatt's occupation, police are concerned about additional victims.
Specifically, Altstatt has been charged with “five counts of committing a third degree sex offense, child abuse, and six counts of committing an unnatural and perverted sex practice.” The former pediatrician is currently free on bond.WUSA9 reported that a spokesperson for Walter Reed said that the medical center is aware of the charges against Altstatt but could not comment as the investigation is still ongoing.
